5 Questions in 5 Minutes with Jeremy Saks

You come from a traditional litigation background with big firm experience. How is it that you ended up at RPCK?

My journey to RPCK was a lot of luck and coincidence. I started my career at a large law firm where I focused on litigation, white-collar criminal defense, and securities litigation. But, as is the case with many lawyers in “big law,” after nearly a decade, I found myself looking for something different — I wanted more substantial responsibility, more hands-on experience, and more opportunities to grow as an attorney. Really, I wanted to move from a big law firm to a smaller, more intimate one. It just so happens that at this very juncture in my life, I met Chintan who was at the beginning stages of founding RPCK, and everything clicked.

Looking back, when I joined RPCK, I was looking for a different set of opportunities, and I was fortunate enough to contribute to the firm’s foundational growth, which is really special.

Where does litigation overlap with the transactional work that RPCK is known for?

While RPCK is primarily known for its impact-focused transactional and corporate work, we also handle litigation matters, often for existing clients. So, if a client does 20 successful deals and one goes sour, I’m the one who’s brought in to handle that one. My work feels really organic in that way — people come to us needing help for one thing and then many of the cases I end up working on are for these existing clients who have other future needs.

I counsel founders, corporations, and investors. While at a big law firm that might mean fighting for the best financial bottom line, in the impact world there are more objectives to consider, such as working towards a mission-aligned outcome or an outcome that prioritizes optimal financial and environmental return, and so on. As the industry continues to grow, our solutions do too.

You are one of the very first lawyers at RPCK. Talk to us about how RPCK has evolved in that time? As someone who has been with RPCK since its inception, what do you believe has set it apart in the legal landscape?

RPCK’s journey has been remarkable, starting as a small startup to a leading player in impact investing and corporate law. What sets RPCK apart is our dedication to impact — a niche that has become our hallmark. When I joined RPCK, the firm was just beginning to take shape. I came on in a part-time, temporary role. Chintan wasn’t initially looking to hire a litigator, but as the firm expanded, our rapport grew, and I found myself increasingly involved in handling dispute resolution matters for the firm. My role as the firm’s first general counsel and leader of the dispute resolution practice evolved as the firm encountered various litigation matters where now our impact investing clients contribute to our litigation work.

Today RPCK is delivering world-class legal solutions to a global and growing set of institutional clients. Given this evolution, talk about the opportunities for attorneys to build a thriving legal practice at RPCK. What sorts of attorneys should consider a career at RPCK?

One of the things that makes RPCK an exciting place to work is a sense of possibility that permeates every interaction. Here, your ideas are actively encouraged and nurtured. Our Colorado office is a great example of this. A couple of attorneys saw an opportunity and made the case for expanding the practice to serve the impact community in the west and we have now had a Denver office for three years.

Another thing is that at RPCK you’ll find people you like to work with. The difference with RPCK is that I can authentically say that I like to work with every single person on the team. And unlike traditional big law firms, RPCK offers developing attorneys the opportunity to work closely with clients, make meaningful contributions, and maintain a healthy work-life balance with the measure of success being contribution to the firm rather than billable hours.

RPCK’s culture makes it a really attractive home for legal professionals. Our team comprises diverse talents united by an entrepreneurial spirit and a shared commitment to driving positive change.

Bringing out your crystal ball, what does the future hold for RPCK as impact investing continues to gain adherents across the capital stack?

Mainstream finance is moving in our direction and we have an opportunity to make impact central to that agenda. The firm is in a constant state of evolution and always looking ahead. As our global client base expands and diversifies, we will continue to adapt our practices and services to meet their needs across geographies.
